In memory of graphic designer/sculptor Mr. Takenobu Igarashi, who passed away in February of this year, we will be holding a one-day memorial exhibition.Mr. Igarashi studied design at Tama Art University and UCLA, and has been active internationally as a graphic designer since the 1970s. In later years, as a sculptor, he created numerous works that resonated with people's daily lives, building a rich world of expression that transcended genres. This exhibition traces the creative journey of Mr. Igarashi spanning over half a century.
The exhibition title "ONE DAY ONE SHOW" comes from the name of a series of one-day solo exhibitions held by members of Tokyo Designers Space (TDS), a collective/venue for designers established in 1976. Aiming to create a "place for communication between designers across genres," they deepened their friendships through exhibitions, inspiring each other and paving the way for the future of Japanese art. Mr. Igarashi was one of the founding members, and during his lifetime he would often share many of his memories, both public and private, of his time with his colleagues.
We hope this exhibition, held at the AXIS Building where TDS once resided, will be a place where we can remember Mr. Igarashi together with you all, and where new connections may be formed.
