The Thinking Piece is a nonprofit platform that aims to create a place to call for help from designers on many social issues and widely spread their ideas for solutions. It was established mostly by the writer Takahiro Tsuchida and Hokuto Ando and Toshiya Hayashi from the design studio we+. An exhibition was held in April at (PLACE) by method featuring 19 teams of designers from Japan and abroad. Several works were sold, the proceeds being donated.
In the talk event Dialogue #2, the participating designers and organizers of the previous session of The Thinking Piece exhibition and some special guests will talk about how design can address social issues. Designers can only do so much to contribute during a major crisis such as the invasion of Ukraine, but they should be able to spread awareness of issues and explore possible developments. Participants will discuss various themes in a casual setting. We look forward to seeing you.

The Thinking Piece

The Thinking Piece is a nonprofit platform that aims to create a place to call for help from designers on many social issues and widely spread their ideas for solutions. It was established in spring of this year mostly by the writer Takahiro Tsuchida and Hokuto Ando and Toshiya Hayashi from the design studio we+. As its first initiative, The Thinking Piece exhibition was held at the gallery (PLACE) by method in Shibuya, where works by 19 designers from Japan and abroad were exhibited and sold. The proceeds of 2 million yen were donated toward humanitarian aid in Ukraine and its neighboring countries, and the exhibit gave an opportunity to see works of contemporary design up close, some of them limited edition. The name "The Thinking piece" means "a work for thinking." Its aim is to work continuously to create more opportunities to think from a broader perspective.
