We are holding an exhibition to present the results of a joint research project between Kanazawa College of Art and Crafts and Suzuki that has been ongoing since 2020.
In modern Western history, the convergence of capitalism, science, and anthropocentrism liberated humanity from a theocentric worldview, ushering in reason, science and technology, and economic development. On the other hand, it also gave rise to environmental crises caused by the exploitation of natural resources, as well as the loss of humanity and diversity resulting from the homogenization of people and regional cultures. Now, the rapid evolution of generative AI is set to profoundly transform industry, work, education, and the nature of creativity. In this time of transition, we aim to reexamine the values that modern Western society has promoted as the "only correct worldview." Through design, we seek to move beyond dichotomies such as human/nature, modernity/tradition, and science/non-science, and transition toward a "Pluriverse" where diverse people, cultures, knowledge, and life forms can coexist. So, how can we reconstruct the world and connect students' creativity to the future?
The theme of the 7th Visionary Thinking event is "Design for a Multiverse." Twenty third-year students from the Industrial Design program and one first-year graduate student participated in this research project. On the first day, Friday, September 25, only the opening event will be held. The program will feature a keynote speech titled "The Present and Future of AI" by Nobuyuki Hayashi, a journalist and professor emeritus at our university, followed by public presentations by 21 students.
