Shimadzu Corporation and the design studio "we+" will hold the exhibition "WONDER POWDER," which was held during the Milano Design Week in April this year.
WONDER POWDER is a research project launched by "Shimadzu Design," the design center of Shimadzu Corporation, in 2022 and worked with we+. Focusing on the primitive act of turning solid matter into powder to expand its use, the project analyzes the distribution of elements and particle sizes of various powdered materials, and visualizes the rich expressions and behavior of the materials as an installation. Through this exhibition, you can learn about the characteristics of 15 different materials scientifically, and feel the charm and beauty of the material itself through installation. Concept
Paints were born from minerals, and bread from wheat.
Since ancient times, humans have expanded the possibilities of materials by crushing solids into powders. Powdering is one of the most primitive processing methods for mankind. Powdering makes the material easier to handle and expands its use, as well as encounter expressions and behaviors that could never be seen in the solid state. WONDER POWDER is a research project by Shimadzu Corporation and the design studio we+, who were fascinated by the possibilities of powders. In this project, which started in 2022, we have not only observed the movement of milled powders of various materials in water, but also scientifically analyzed them using Shimadzu's analytical instruments to explore the beauty of powders from both a sensory and logical approach. In this exhibition, part of our research and installation will be exhibited as the result of the research so far. We try to capture "beauty" from a new perspective.
