A graduation exhibition is going to be held in AXIS Gallery for the first time since 2019, no less than four years ago. The title "STEN TOKYO" gets its "S" from "Shizuoka University of Art and Culture" and "sotsugyo," the Japanese word for graduation, and its "TEN" from "tenji," the Japanese word for exhibition. Held under the name "SUAC-ID" from 2003 to 2015, it was expanded into a volunteer exhibition by the Faculty of Design in 2016, and renamed "STEN TOKYO" into the bargain. The students started out by feeling their way when they first learned about it, but since then, they've been eagerly doing special exhibitions on campus, crowdfunding, and a whole range of other challenging activities toward it. The theme this time round is "Timeline." A timeline chronologically shows people their own posts and other people's on social media and messenger apps, so it was chosen as a familiar theme for the students to faithfully represent their own Gen Z, digital native selves through.. It incorporates the idea of visually presenting the flow of time and taking what the students have achieved in their university lives up to now, and linking them to what they're going to do in their lives to come.
With works full of the students' eagerness to keep going moving forward, we're sure you'll be glad you dropped by.
