Ayaka Yamamoto's solo exhibition will be held at Taka Ishii Gallery for the third time. The exhibition will feature works shot during a visit to Malawi, Africa in 2019, outside of her previous main shooting location, Eastern Europe. She comprehensively accepts an accumulated sense of belonging, which involves culture, customs, and beliefs that are harbored in the locations and locals, and crystallizes it into her works. The works showcase an expansion of her perspective into a more intimate one, as an extension of her previous works (including video works), demonstrating the quiet excitement of the artist, who is fascinated by moments when the abundant soft African light mingles with the spontaneous appearance of photographic subjects.
Her collection of works, We are Made of Grass, Soil, Trees, and Flowers, will be published at the same time as the exhibition. Please enjoy.
