Yuki Nishiyama depicts flowers, plants, and creatures on glass she has blown herself, using sandblasting and enamel painting. The transparency of the glass she creates, combined with the layers of color, seems to capture not only the forms of these plants and creatures, but also the passage of time--as light shifts, seasons change, and life continues.
In addition to the natural landscapes of Hokkaido, the works in this exhibition depict plants that Ms. Yuki Nishiyama encountered along the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route, as well as plants she saw for the first time in Yunnan Province, China. We invite you to experience the world teeming with life as seen through the eyes of Ms. Yuki Nishiyama.
The seasons turn, light flows, life cycles.
I find beauty in the myriad gradations that exist in the space between them.
Traveling on my own two feet, I encountered plants and landscapes in those places.
What emerges between nature and me--
I have depicted the living beings that thrive there.
