Hiroaki Yazawa was born and raised in Kamakura, the son of a lacquer artist and grandson of another--a family with two generations of lacquer artisans. Having naturally inherited the craft of lacquerwork while growing up surrounded by it from a young age, Mr. Yazawa places great importance on the fact that his pieces are "tools for everyday use." He also believes that no matter how much effort is put into them, they should ultimately remain simple. This philosophy is embodied in his works, which combine a quiet elegance with the comfort of effortless daily use and thoughtful design meant to last a lifetime. Additionally, the soft texture that highlights the beauty of the wood grain, along with the modern aesthetic created by silver and tin accents, are among the pieces' key attractions.

This exhibition features a variety of works, centered on lacquerware trays that convey the unique warmth and strength of hand-carved pieces. We invite you to visit the venue and experience the charm of lacquerware as it evolves through daily use.
