Irregular striped patterns that appear without adherence to strict order.
Forms that, while containing gentle distortions, maintain a sense of quiet comfort and ease.
In the ceramics of Aki Katayama, fragments of vast nature--shaped by the passage of time--breathe softly and quietly.
Her work is created through two distinct techniques:
"Sekisō Kurinuki," in which slab-built layers of clay are stacked and carved out,
and "Shikisō," an original kohiki-style method using layered, colored clays.
The differing expressions born from these techniques both avoid symmetry,
exuding the soft tension and warmth unique to hand-built ceramics.
In this exhibition, we are pleased to present not only vessels for flowers, sake, and everyday use, but also collaborative works created with Yoko Watanabe.
We warmly invite you to stop by.
