Morito Domae Ceramic Exhibition "Light and Shadow"

This is a solo exhibition by ceramic artist Morito Domae, who runs his studio in Hakodate, Hokkaido. His works combine simple yet deeply expressive forms with delicate and graceful paintings, primarily featuring plant motifs. They possess both tranquility and vibrancy while maintaining a strong presence. These vessels reveal their beauty not only on special occasions but even more so in everyday life, quietly accompanying the user's time. Using a technique in which designs are painted over the glaze, familiar plants are rendered as intimate patterns that bring a gentle touch of color to the dining table.
In this exhibition, we will focus on the silver‑glazed works that Domae has been particularly drawn to in recent years. The subtle shadows and textures that emerge on their surfaces create a rich variety of expressions depending on the light. Alongside these silver‑glazed pieces, we will also present a wide range of works, including black‑and‑white items made with the sgraffito technique, colored pieces, and smaller objects.
