This is a solo exhibition of Hiroaki Yazawa, an artist who creates user-friendly lacquerware based on traditional techniques.
Since he was a child, Yazawa has been familiar with lacquer techniques such as hollowing out, firing, and sometimes the finishing techniques of Kamakura Kage. These artworks are reflected in his knowledge, sensitivity, and techniques. The charm of this work lies in its bold carvings and the use of gorgeous materials such as silver and tin as well as lacquer, yet it has a somewhat old-fashioned and antique atmosphere.
This exhibition will feature everyday use pieces such as trays, bowls, plates, and lunch boxes, as well as tea utensils. We hope you will enjoy the many works created in his hometown of Kamakura, where he has been working with lacquer.
