Each Material Seminar will feature a selection of materials pulled from the Material Library's collection of them from all around the world. The materials will be showcased along with a commentary on the theme. (We plan to hold these seminars on a regular basis.)
The theme for the first one is antibacterial and antiviral products, which have attracted vast attention due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. We'll showcase materials that have been selected from the Material Library for their unique approaches to dealing with bacteria and viruses. Some examples are those that get antibacterial and antiviral properties from metal ions, those that derive antibacterial properties from natural materials like protein and cork, and one that is antibacterial thanks to its design resembling shark skin. This will be our first hybrid seminar--a combined online and in-person event--since COVID-19 began. Only Material Library members can attend in-person. Those who come to the venue can even touch the materials showcased during the seminar, as well as visit the Antimicrobial/Antiviral Material Exhibition currently being held in the showroom.
